Sweet Sassy, Lawrence

Serious question: Do kindergartners have ANY idea what a microaggression even is?

It seems intolerably cruel to hold kindergartners to standards that adults can't maintain. Lawrence took the path headed in the opposite direction of Reality that no amount of sanity and reason may ever push them anywhere near it. So I guess it's not a huge shock that members of the Lawrence Board of Education are considering a policy that would allow public school officials to expell kindergartners for so-called microaggressions. Still. I'm baffled.

The kindergartners I do know feel as if they've been microagressed everytime an adult tells them no. Meanwhile, I feel microaggressed every time a kindergartner throws a temper tantrum in public.

The Lawrence Board of Education will consider its policy, which defines microaggressions as "subtle but offensive comments or actions directed at a minority or other non-dominant group that are often unintentional or unconsciously reinforce a stereotype," on at its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. on June 27.

I did not find the definition for "other non-dominant group" anywhere in the policy. This public school insanity is one of many reasons I'm an advocate for school choice.
