Election Day

Because it's Election Day, I'm not going to write the scathing repartee I had planned about the head scratchingly silly thing one elected official did yesterday. You're welcome.

It's Election Day, which means cue the endless status updates encouraging everyone to get out and vote. I actually disagree. If this is the very first time you've thought about today's election, if you're scrambling to figure out who will appear on your ballot before you go to the polls today, do us a favor and stay home. I offer this light reading to keep you engaged throughout the day. 

Elections are messy business, and these decisions should best be left to the people who care enough to pay attention and learn about the issues. And if you're one of those folks who is going to vote despite not knowing anything about the candidates or the issues, do me a favor and send me an email. I'll offer you informed suggestions. Short of that, take the Kansas City Star's recommendations into the ballot box and vote exactly the opposite way. Actually, there are approximately 5 people on the paper's endorsement list who deserve your vote. So scratch that idea. If you're tempted to use the Star's endorsements to cast your votes, stay home. No seriously. Stay home. (Oh look. Shiny stuff.)

Now that we've weeded out the people who stumbled on this blog erroneously, let's talk about today. I'm not going to make any major predictions. I'm sure they'd be wrong. Voters seem shockingly checked out considering it's a presidential year, and the nonstop squawking from Missouri opinion writers about the challenges Kansas faces.

My hope is that the most conservative of candidates eek out victories. If you know which candidates fill that bill, I urge you to get out there and offer your vote.
