Kansas GOP Insider (wannabe): No Special Session?

No Special Session?

Rumor has it that the Governor will not call a special session. I don't know if this is true, and I also can't say that Gov. Brownback won't change his mind.

For what it's worth, I always appreciate bold stances, and I didn't think Brownback had it in him.

I sincerely hope for my friends in the Kansas Legislature that Brownback's very next move is to hire a crisis communications team or consultants. A major part of Brownback's challenges aren't political; they're the result of absolutely atrocious public relations efforts. (Yes, I know that the press is just short of hostile to Brownback. That's still no excuse for the bizarre, pointless, and terrible public relations efforts of the last few years. It's not like everyone didn't already know that they would be dealing with a hostile press.)

This crisis team should assist legislators and the Administration in crafting a message explaining clearly and concisely what lead to his action and how he plans to address the issues on the other side of his decision not to call a special session.

And now, as a special hint: If you heed this advice and hire consultants or a team that specializes in crisis public relations, DO NOT SEND OUT A PRESS RELEASE announcing that fact.
