Strap on the Armor

These are incredibly dark days. As National Review's Jonah Goldberg wrote, "Nationalism and socialism are in full gallop in America today while conservatives are without a horse."

I want to throw a pity party. I want to curl up in the fetal position and just stay in bed for the next 4 years navel gazing. But then I will become a part of the problem. We're where we are today, because we, the people, have become complacent. We've ignored the vile infections breeding in our highest institutions, starting with Congress, all the way down to our local governments, especially our local school boards. God-fearing people ceded power first in education, then in every level of the bureaucracy, and in the media. We have no cultural warriors. Instead, conservatives have a bunch of old guys fannying about with white papers about small government.

I'm too young to understand the logic of how that happened. Were conservatives' brightest too smart to waste their lives in the spheres of education, journalism and entertainment? Now conservatives are marginalized to their own little corners of the blogosphere. (Hi friends!)

Tomorrow, we must begin planning to take back our party, our country, and our culture. Today, we pray.

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:13-18)
